Jericho Tavern, Oxford

by Jo Kenny

I don’t usually hang out in Oxford, so when I went to watch a band play at the Jericho Tavern it was a nice change of scenery. If you like people watching then you’ll love Oxford: never in my life have I seen more shirts & sweaters teamed with spectacles and big hair. It’s one swish of a wand away from Hogwarts.

So, when you’ve finished making sneaky glances at passers by you can cast your eyes to the menu! Or gawk at the mega board behind you…

There were some really bold and punchy British dishes offered up like Ox cheek with buttered kale that I was umming and aahing over, but with everyone around the table picking the pulled pork cheeseburger I was pressured into following suit! Hungry drunk boys have no patience!

It’s a good thing that what arrived was a glorious, textbook looking burger with a smooth & shiny egg washed bun, filled with delicious ground steak, fresh salad and cheese. Oh and a lovely mound of spiced pulled pork.

I spent every mouthful trying to analyse the flavours of that pork. I have no idea what they did to it, but it was sweet and earthy- the perfect uplift to compliment the beef patty.

Good, honest eats in posh surroundings. Lovely!

Wow, that burger looked so good, I had a pulled pork burger at atomic burger in Oxford and didn’t look as nearly as nice as this one does. jealous!

Ah! You must be referring to the chuck Norris, no? I’ve gotta say I’m a big fan of Atomic burger, I guess this offering of pulled pork was a bit more sophisticated though. Not too posh for a good helping of burger sauce on the side mind!
