When you’re going low carb there really is very little you can do to satisfy a sugar craving, you can’t even have a peice of fruit! So when I saw a recipe floating around on Pinterest for home made Greek yoghurt I got the idea to try and invent some keto-friendly fro yo with what I could scrape together in my kitchen.
Frozen Yoghurt
- 1 pot of Total Greek yoghurt
- 225ml double cream
- 2 tbsp Green & Blacks unsweetened cocoa powder
It was all very simple to make; as it should be when you’re needing a quick fix. Just whisk it all up in a bowl until thickened.
Stick it in the freezer for an hour or so and it’s ready to serve. Looks pretty convincing huh? Just like chocolate ice cream!
The reality? Hmmm, not so good. There is no sugar in this dessert, which makes it horribly disappointing to eat. It’s like eating ice cream that had all of the fun sucked out of it. It is lovely and creamy mind, but with no sweetness whatsoever the cocoa is very bitter.
If you’re hell bent on keeping on the straight and narrow this low carb frozen yoghurt will do the trick with around 2g carbs per serving. But otherwise, stick to the Ben & Jerry’s.

Do you think it might be improved a little bit by adding a bit of vanilla from a vanilla pod?
I think lots of vanilla as a flavour on its own would be good! But because this was so bitter I reckon the floral flavour of vanilla wouldn’t really work. Actually I gave this batch a second chance last night and I enjoyed it much more, maybe it needs some time in the freezer to mature!
I make mine with splenda to sweeten it ^_^ Really good
I bet that works a treat 🙂 For me though there’s something about Splenda that I just can’t get on board with. Artificial sweeteners in my soft drinks or sweets I’m okay with, but physically adding it to my home cooking just feels, unnatural!
I eat greek yogurt with vanilla, stevia and walnut pieces, and it is positively decadent. I avoid aspartame and splenda because they are neurotoxins and also thyroid toxins.
Much better with a bit of stevia. All natural and tastes great. 🙂
I added a few drops of Stevia Glycerite and it was wonderful. Tasted just like Chocolate FroYo! 🙂 I would like to know how many servings this recipe is?
I feel a bit silly but here goes: what does a “pot” of Greek yogurt equal? In any kind of measurement and I’ll convert! 🙂
