It’s been a while since we had one of these! We haven’t been hitting the Dim Sum nearly as much as we used to, but felt we should pay it a visit before we go all strict and frugal in the New Year. Today we tried ‘Long life pork buns’ which were enthusiastically recommended to us. I chuckled when they came to the table, no prizes for why 😉
Turns out they’re meant to look like peaches and that peaches are symbolic of longevity in China. These long life buns are usually eaten on birthdays, and the older you get the more buns appear at your party! Traditionally they are filled with lotus paste, but these ones were filled with pork, much like the kind you get in a Char Su bun.
I’m not usually a big partaker in superstition, but I’m glad to when the custom is so tasty!
